Description
The MSD 8.5 Mm super conductor wire is the performance wire. Engineered from the inside out, the 8.5 Offers everything you have ever wanted in a wire; incredibly low resistance without electronic interference. In a single 12 inch Length of super conductor wire there is only 40 to 50 ohms of resistance. That is the lowest resistance of any helically wound wire. To accomplish this, we use a copper alloy conductor due to it's great voltage carrying capabilities. The low resistance results in less loss of spark energy so more reaches the spark plug. The conductor is wound extremely tight around a special center core. So tight, that there is over 40 feet Of conductor wrapped into a single foot of plug wire. This winding procedure, combined with a Ferro-magnetic impregnated center core, produces an extremely effective electro magnetic interference (EMI) choke.

These are very high-quality and great-looking ignition wires but they are a bit of a chore to build. I've been very happy with every MSD product I've purchased and these wires are no exception. These wires are some of the fattest around and I actually had to modify my wire loom to accommodate their humongous size. They are well insulated, very flexible and I really like the bright red color. In the box you will get nine wires (eight plug wires, one coil wire) and all of them will have a multi-angle plug boot installed for you except the coil wire which has a 90-degree boot. The multi-angle boot is completely awesome, too. Once the spark plug is attached to the boot you can bend the boot around and it will hold in place. So if you need 30-degrees of bend on that one plug the multi-angle boot will go on straight and then you can bend it where you want it and it'll hold. It was very useful for that one plug that is RIGHT in line with my steering knuckle.It's up to you to build the wires for your own custom length and install the distributor terminal and boot with the included crimping tool. The instructions are pretty clear and relatively straightforward. You will get both HEI terminals (and boots) or standard socket terminals and boots with enough to do all nine wires plus an extra if you screw one up. The included stripper/crimper tool is a bit odd but gets the job done. It requires a sharp knife (an X-acto worked well for me) to strip the wire and a bench vise to crimp the wire. I had a small hand-held vise that I used so I didn't have to take each wire off the car after measuring to crimp it down. The tool is pretty rudimentary and a little awkward but it worked better than expected once I knew what I was doing. If you can afford the $70 MSD crimping tool I'm sure it'd make the job MUCH easier.Once I built all my wires they clicked right onto my MSD distributor cap (stock distributor) and on my plugs. The boots are a really tight fit on some plugs but a little WD-40 helped them slide on. The car fired right up like usual and although I don't expect any kind of performance benefit from new wires I know that they perform better and will last longer than the parts-store junk I pulled off the car. It took me about 3 hours to build this set of wires with an aluminum wire loom/separator which was a bit longer than I was expecting but it started to go faster after I did several wires and had the routine down.Very pretty installed.Ohm them before cutting to size.Of course Amazon is super easy to return with but finding a bad wire immediately will speed up your project.Instructions have how many ohms per foot of wire.Get the crimping device! Save a headache.Universal plug end breaks. Worst wires I've ever used.Great product. I paid a little more for the wiring kit than I should have. It was mostly a shortcoming on MSD's website where if it didn't understand your engine, it would default you to this. I could have saved 30-40 bucks just buying fully premade ones for any other small block ford, but now I do appreciate being able to shorten/lengthen and route cables to give the engine a really clean, finished look.The wires and connectors are great and of true MSD quality.Resistance was even better than advertised, sometimes just 2-3 ohms, but never more than 10 for any wire.The kit comes with 8x 8.5mm wires (standard is 8mm) that have the spark plug end on them. You cut it to length and put the distributor end on with the included tool. Instructions were confusing but just follow the pictures and you'll be fine.This set is the only option if you want to have great looking custom length spark plug wires.I bought this set for my 1993 Ford F150. This wire set is high quality. I like the fact that I can make the wires the exactly length I need. The strip gauge and crimp device works like a charm. It is very handy to have a small bench vice in order to use. I could not imagine what a pain it would be without. they give you plenty of length for any routing that you may desire. I chose to make as short as possible for each. i think i had enough wire left over to do a set of wires for my 4 cylinder car. The end connectors snap on the distributor and spark plug very nicely and securely. My engine has no hesitation now.Works greatThey are the best.MSD Quality. You get what you pay for.The Universal Wire kit allowed me to custom cut snd route the Plug wires on my OLDS 455. Making for a very neat installation
